JENA, GERMANY On October 5, 2026, Dr. Xiang Gao, Chairman of GemPharmatech Co., Ltd., delivered a scientific seminar titled “From Models to Discovery: Advancing Translational Research Through Innovative Mouse Models” at the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology – Hans Knöll Institute (Leibniz-HKI) in Jena, Germany.
Held in the institute’s Koch and Pasteur seminar rooms, the event brought together researchers from Leibniz-HKI and the wider Beutenberg Campus as Gao introduced how mice are at the center of translational research; showing slides of GemPharmatech developing from a model resource into a full-service contract research organization (CRO). The talk continued with an in depth look at how different genetically engineered and humanized mouse models help connect basic research with preclinical evaluation and drug development.

GemPharmatech Meets European Animal Welfare and Quality Standards
“It was important to us to show how GemPharmatech is deeply aligned with European research standards in animal care and quality,” said Dr. Brandy Wilkinson, CEO of GemPharmatech North America and head of Business Development in Europe, who joined Gao during the seminar.
For European researchers, the quality of a model depends on the welfare standards and documentation behind it. GemPharmatech operates under an internationally recognized quality and animal welfare framework:
AAALAC International accreditation, confirming high standards of animal care and use
ISO 9001 Quality Management System certification, reflecting a commitment to consistent quality and customer focus
OLAW Assurance, demonstrating compliance with U.S. Public Health Service Policy
Active membership of the ICLAS Laboratory Animal Quality Network, linking GemPharmatech’s quality practices to a global network of research institutions
GemPharmatech’s animal care and use practices are guided by the 3Rs principles (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement) and are aligned with key European regulations and guidelines, including:
Directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes
European Convention ETS 123 for the protection of vertebrate animals used for experimental and other scientific purposes
FELASA guidelines, published by the Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations
ARRIVE 2.0 guidelines for reporting of in vivo experiments
This alignment spans the full animal care and use program, from environmental control and husbandry to veterinary care, training, and project review.
