Gempharmatech's model customization service enables precise genetic modifications including gene knockout (KO), conditional knockout (cKO or "floxed") alleles, knock-in at endogenous loci and safe harbors (including conditional knock-ins and conditional point mutations), point mutations, genetic humanizations and transgenesis. What genetic backgrounds are available for custom mouse model generation services?
The standard genetic background for custom model generation is C57BL/6JGpt. Additionally, new models can be developed on other background strains or on top of existing mouse models. Commonly used background strains include NOD, BALB/c, C3H, 129, C57BL/6N, FVB, and ICR. Strains not recommended: Strains such as DBA/1, CBA, and A/J are not recommended as genetic backgrounds for model generation due to limitations such as poor embryo quality or low fecundity (litter size).
What is the typical timeline for custom model generation services?
For various knock-in (KI) models on the C57BL/6JGpt background, the standard delivery timeline is is 5–8 months. This covers the entire workflow, including vector construction, microinjection, breeding to obtain heterozygotes, and genotyping. Actual timelines may vary depending on factors such as the genetic background of the strain, the length and complexity of the insert, and the strain’s inherent breeding capacity.
