Opened in mid-2025, GemPharmatech’s research facility has been a key addition to San Diego’s life science community by providing access to reliable preclinical in vivo study capabilities. We are proud to announce that our San Diego facility and animal care program has received full accreditation from the AAALAC International Council on Accreditation. 

This achievement reflects the quality of programmatic support and, importantly, Gempharmatech’s dedication to the ethical and humane care and use of animals. This accomplishment reflects the dedication of our veterinarian, animal care technicians, scientists, and quality teams. Their commitment to excellence ensures that our facility supports both scientific innovation and responsible animal care.

What is AAALAC?

AAALAC International is a private, non-profit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and assessment. Its standards for accreditation are set forth by the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, established by the U.S. National Research Council in 2011, and the Animal Welfare Act and Regulations.

In terms of animal welfare, there is no other organization as widely recognized by organizations in the life science space.

Why this matters for our customers and partners? 

For biotech and pharmaceutical partners, animal welfare standards are inseparable from data quality and regulatory readiness. Strong animal care programs directly contribute to:
